London - May 2006 – A new book written by Arthur Evans has been launched specifically for business owners and workgroup managers looking to deploy FileMaker Pro in their workplace. FileMaker Pro 8 Business Applications is published by Wordware Publishing, Inc.
The book gives small business owners and workgroup managers the power to write their own database applications. After demonstrating how easily a database can be written using FileMaker Pro, the book introduces a set of 11 business database case studies. These solutions can be easily adapted by the reader for their own firm’s data management requirements.
“Most FileMaker textbooks have been written for developers who wish to improve their FileMaker skills.” Evans explained. “This is the first FileMaker book written exclusively for business owners who want to know the best way to manage and add value to information in their company or workgroup.”
The book does not assume any prior knowledge of FileMaker Pro, or any other database application. Those new to FileMaker will be able to follow the database design techniques introduced in the book to create their own relational database. Readers with prior FileMaker experience will find the development techniques and methods described can take their existing FileMaker skills to a new level.
The book demonstrates how any business can improve information management using FileMaker. The book explains how the new features included in FileMaker Pro 8 can be used to build effective business software. The book is written in a style that is easy to follow for new users of FileMaker Pro 8 and those who may have used older versions of the application. “New users will also benefit from the book,” Evans added. “If you can make a spreadsheet add up a column, you can create a relational database for your business with FileMaker Pro 8.”
“This is a great resource for companies that have recognised the need to organise their information within a dedicated database,” says Tony Speakman, Regional Manager for FileMaker, Northern Europe. “We work hard to educate small business that upgrading IT systems is possible without the added expense of on call IT support. This book illustrates that perfectly; for beginners, right through to the pros that want to expand their skills.”
FileMaker Pro 8 Business Applications includes 11 project chapters to assist the reader in developing business applications. The projects include customer relationship management, timesheets, creative studio job bags, stock control, subscriptions, event management, and a professional practice management template for doctors and veterinary surgeons. The completed solution for each chapter can also be downloaded from the author and publisher websites.
