This FileMaker recognised course focuses on providing students with a solid technical grounding in FileMaker Pro 8.5 and on ensuring that developers have a comprehensive source of information on the FileMaker Pro family of technologies.
Who Should Attend
We encourage anyone who uses FileMaker Pro on a regular basis to register for our courses. These intermediate and advanced classes assume students are already familiar with the basics of using FileMaker Pro.
Day One - Design
Data Modelling
Study the concepts behind relational databases and understand how they are applied in FileMaker Pro 8.5. Learn how to recognize data relationships, ensure data integrity, and implement multiple table solutions in FileMaker Pro 8.5.
Developer Skills I
Build a complete FileMaker Pro 8.5 database solution and learn to work with field types, auto-entry options, field validation, calculation formulas, scripts, and reports. This module also covers concepts like development standards and how to ensure that a database meet the needs of its users.
Day Two - Development
Developer Skills 2
As a companion to Developer Skills 1, delve into writing advanced calculations, learn about the new capabilities of FileMaker Pro 8.5, explore custom functions, new scripting techniques, and multiple window management.
Security
Study the account-based security features of FileMaker Pro 8.5 and learn how to implement privilege sets, tie access to database solutions to external authentication servers, control both access and authoring rights to systems, and extend security controls with scripting.
Server and Networking Configuration
Review the best practices for setting up and maintaining FileMaker Server 7 and FileMaker Server 7 Advanced. Go through hardware and networking requirements, learn proper backup routines, and be trained in configuration processes.
Day Three - Deployment
Instant Web Publishing (IWP)
Study the capabilities of built-in Instant Web Publishing in FileMaker Pro 8.5 and learn how to develop solutions meant to be published via IWP. Review configuration processes and understand what development techniques to use for optimal results.
Connectivity
Learn how to integrate FileMaker Pro 8.5 with SQL systems, both as an ODBC client and host. Review configuration processes and learn how to synchronize and control data through standard ODBC/JDBC drivers and SQL queries.
FileMaker Developer 7
Examine the tools in FileMaker Developer 7 including file optimization, script debugging, the database development report, and custom functions. Study how to create a bound runtime solution, deliver a kiosk system, and customize a solution. Learn how to work with plug-ins and incorporate them into database systems.
